Now that my relationship with Amazon has ended, I am very happy to once again make the entire compliment of Uphill Both Ways available on this blog. I have organized the book on a new page Uphill Both Ways to make access and reading easier and more consistent. My About page serves as the Forward and Introduction.
Since the launch of the book in July of 2013, I have written many related stories. Over time, I will be incorporating these newer stories into the book page to provide a clearer storyline and an overall better read and I will also fix the many links to make it easier to proceed onto the next chapter.
While the entire experience of writing and publishing a book has been most informative and enjoyable, there have been drawbacks [see So You Want To Publish]. Regaining the freedom of a pure blog writer will be a welcome return I have long sought. Perhaps, once I have assembled the old work into readable form, I will once again begin to enjoy writing new work again.
To the thousands of my loyal readers and followers, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation for all your comments and well wishes. For my new readers I offer over 100 stories for your enjoyment with more [hopefully] to come as the inspiration flows over me. I hope to continue to improve this site and the content you enjoy.
I look forward to reading more. It’s such a balancing act, living life to the fullest.

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate it. I have high hopes, as usual. Perhaps one day, what I seek will be revealed. Maybe the seeking and the revealing are the same?

I’d love to know more about what led you to depart from amazon.com. Maybe there’s something in it for me to learn now that I’m about to publish with Create Space.
p.s., I did enjoy your amazon product — reviewed it even. And I do look forward to more of your stories.
(By the way, where in Boston? .. if you’re willing.)

Over the years I’ve lived in Back Bay, Alston/Brighton, Cambridge, and Belmont. And a year in Boxborough and 3 years in Bedford.

A couple of years ago I toured Back Bay where I had lived when I was at Boston University — 5,462 years ago. I recognized not a thing. It has been totally gentrified as far as I could see.

Yes, now Tom and Gisele Brady [and friends] live there.

And when I lived on Buswell Street, its name had just been changed to conceal the fact it was reputed to be a red light district. Hmm. Was that the reason those men pounded on my door wanting to see Queenie (or whatever her name was.)

I remember when Mayor Kevin White put every gutted brownstone in the south end up for sale. $50k each but you had to fix it up within 2 years. They’re worth $millions today.

I have two comments. #1: wow!; #2: where did all the poor people from the area end up?
Thanks

There were hundreds of these brownstones then, all empty and generating no tax revenue for the city. It was a brilliant stroke for White. They were eventually all owned by the city due to back taxes. It wasn’t a place you ever wanted to wander into back then. Once people starting buying and fixing them up, the city came in and re-did the roads and sidewalks. It’s beautiful now.

Did you have a hard time to publish your own books?
LikeLike
No, it actually was very easy. Well, I worked pretty hard at it, but it only took about 3 weeks. My objective was to have as many people read it as possible. Now that it’s back online, I’m hoping to achieve that goal.

Had you chosen KDP Select when you had to remove all your other materials, or just plain KDP?
LikeLike
KDP Select I think. But the requirement was buried in the mountain of small print which I didn’t discover until later. I wasn’t happy about it, but I understood it. I’m just happy to be free of it all now.

Yes, it’s a tiny button you are encouraged to click and if you miss noticing, you’re toast. But if you go with just the regular KDP choices, you can sell to whomever you want and you are in control of your books and all writings from it. Why not try again but this time don’t click the Select button? A lot of people have Kindles.

Once I’ve incorporated all the ‘new’ stories and can appreciate the updated book, I just might give it another try. But never with the restrictions I had before.
