An Untainted Discovery

When I was growing up in the 1950s, allergies were very rare. Peanuts, nuts, wheat, and the long list that we all know now as the cause of allergies had no such effect when I was young. Then in the early 1960s, consumer product companies began to add chemicals to make their products better. Or so they thought.

I grew up with plain Ivory soap. It was a plain white bar, it floated in the bath tub, and it got you clean. That was it, nothing fancy. Then deodorant soap arrived. Then moisturizing soaps. They came in all shapes and sizes with an ever growing list of chemical additives.  That was when my skin began to change. Over the years I developed a variety of mild skin allergies that seemed to be attributable to the soap I was using at the time.

Recently I was introduced to a new soap. And while I wasn’t looking for a new soap, once I learned about this one I knew I had to try it. This is a natural product. It’s hand made one at a time. Since it’s not made in a factory, each bar is slightly different. And while it comes in many different scents, it rinses off easily and completely in the shower. I have never had the feeling that the soap ‘left something behind.’  For the first time since I was very young, I now get out of the shower feeling really clean.
