An Untainted Discovery

When I was growing up in the 1950s, allergies were very rare. Peanuts, nuts, wheat, and the long list that we all know now as the cause of allergies had no such effect when I was young. Then in the early 1960s, consumer product companies began to add chemicals to make their products better. Or so they thought.

I grew up with plain Ivory soap. It was a plain white bar, it floated in the bath tub, and it got you clean. That was it, nothing fancy. Then deodorant soap arrived. Then moisturizing soaps. They came in all shapes and sizes with an ever growing list of chemical additives.  That was when my skin began to change. Over the years I developed a variety of mild skin allergies that seemed to be attributable to the soap I was using at the time.

Recently I was introduced to a new soap. And while I wasn’t looking for a new soap, once I learned about this one I knew I had to try it. This is a natural product. It’s hand made one at a time. Since it’s not made in a factory, each bar is slightly different. And while it comes in many different scents, it rinses off easily and completely in the shower. I have never had the feeling that the soap ‘left something behind.’  For the first time since I was very young, I now get out of the shower feeling really clean.

Hi Dani. No, I’m not back to writing. I could make a living writing about our new political situation but just don’t have it in me. You never know, I may get back to it someday. Hope you are well and happy.

        I’m sure you could.
        I’m. Sure.

Finally coming out of a fog after my son’s arrival and father’s departure. The give and take of life is not to be understood, J T. Of this, I am sure.

Wishing you contentment that you can wade waist deep in. Wishing that for us all.

Hi, J.T. Not sure where you’ve been as I’ve not gotten notifications from your blog in about a year.

In the last few years, we have moved to another address, clearing out our own, our mother’s and lately my aunt’s house. Lots of chemicals must have been used in the process – the emotional and physical aspects of the shifts in our family’s life all fodder for my blog. Nice to see you here again!

  3. I agree that nowadays our life is full of chemical products. My father also says the same that life was much simple, easy and yet healthy in his childhood. Will check out the link given here. I prefer handmade organic products… 🙂

i used glycerine soap for a while. It worked pretty good and could be used to make a liquid hand soap.

Back in the fifties smoking was common and obesity was not. I also used Ivory, Lava and Dial but for the past couple of decades, I have been using Dove dishwashing liquid exclusively.
